First Responder Scholarship

Belhaven University believes first responders are real-life superheroes. From police officers and firefighters, to emergency medical technicians, paramedics, and 911 operators, we want to recognize these committed men and women have dedicated their lives to protecting and serving others every day.

To honor their service to the public, Belhaven is now offering a scholarship for first responders, who will be granted a 20% scholarship. Please see below for details of the few programs not included in this offer.

Who is considered a First Responder?
A qualified First Responder includes a currently employed or volunteer in the following areas:

  • Federal, State and Local enforcement personnel
  • Firefighters, emergency medical technicians and paramedics
  • Dispatchers/Operators within these organizations
  • Also included are spouses that are not already enrolled in classes.

What about nurses?
At Belhaven, we believe that nurses are heroes too, and we are currently offering a deep discount for students enrolled in our online RN to BSN program who are Mississippi residents.

What if I work part-time or volunteer as a first responder?
The First Responder scholarship is available for current full-time, part-time and volunteer workers.

What about spouses?
Spouses that are not presently enrolled in classes at Belhaven are able to receive the same discount as long as you are married to someone actively employed or volunteering in a first responder position.  During the admission process, you will be asked to submit a scanned copy of your spouses's credentials (or appropriate documentation).

What does the scholarship include?
This scholarship of appreciation includes 20% reduction in tuition of undergraduate or graduate programs.  (It is not applicable for the technology fee, books or other fees.)

*The scholarship does not apply to the following programs: Nursing programs, Master of Arts in Biblical and Theological Studies and any of our partnership programs (WozU, KTA, Bethel Tech, GSV, EducateU, etc.).

The First Responder Scholarship cannot be combined with other scholarships.

Do I need to provide proof of employment/volunteer as part of the admission process?
Yes, a scanned copy of your credentials such as an agency photo ID, letter of employment, or letter from a supervisor, Chief or Training Officer on letterhead, will be required as part of the admission process.

How do I receive my scholarship?
When you complete the Belhaven application, there will be a place on the application to indicate you are a First Responder (or spouse).

What about Military?
Belhaven is proud to offer a scholarship for active military, veterans and their spouses.  The military discount may not be combined with other scholarships or discounts.
